Bloomeries
- Bloomery
- The bloomery is where you will smelt ingots, either by direct smelting of ore, or by alloying into special metals.
- Old-style forges can be used to smelt ingots, but have a comparatively poor return rate.
- There are three publicly accessible bloomeries in Greystone. They will charge a fee for usage, equaling 5% of any ingots produced. (Minimum 1 ingot charge, so make at least 20 ingots!)
- Smaller private bloomeries are also purchasable. (Possibly constructible by high enough skill?)
- To use a bloomery, double click the output spout, this will open up a gump where one may select the type of ingots they wish to make. They will then be able to either use the ore stored in their family ore bunker, or target items in their pack to use.
- Once the items are inserted, the smelting process begins. This will take 30 seconds, no matter how many ingots are being made. Once this time has elapsed, the molten metal will pour from the spout.
- Once the ingot mold is full and the ingots are cooled, they will be automatically placed into the player's pack.
- Ore bunkers
- The ore bunkers of Greystone will store your family's ores. (Common to all characters on the account.)
- Ore bunkers have a one-time cost of 10,000 gold to purchase. They are freely usable after this.
- Ore bunkers can hold up to 20,000 of each type of ore and each type of alloying material. (Spider's silk, sulfuric ash)
- Ores stored in the bunkers is directly usable in Greystone's large bloomeries through the bloomery gump.
- Greystone Porters
- Every town is home to at least one Greystone Porter.
- Greystone Porters will transport any ores you wish to Greystone, directly into your family's ore bunker. They will charge 5% of the ore for this service.
- Smelting experience
- Your smelting experience level will be shown in the bloomery gump.
- Smelting experience will start at 0 and climb to a maximum of 100. It does not effect your skillcap as it is an extension of mining and smithing skills.
- As you gain smelting experience, you will attain various benefits:
- 25: You become more familiar to the artisans of Greystone, and they allow you to store an extra 10,000 of each ore type in the bunkers. (30,000 each)
- 30: You become acquainted with the fires, gaining an extra 5% ingots from every smelt.
- 50: The artisans of Greystone like you even more, they allow you to store another extra 10,000 of each ore type in the bunkers. (40,000 each)
- 60: You befriend the artisans of Greystone from your time spent there and receive a 1/2 off discount for the usage of their bloomery (2.5% charge, or 1 ingot per 40 made.)
- 75: You've become better friends with Greystone, you can store even more ore in the bunkers. (50,000 each)
- 90: Your skill at controlling the fires allows you to receive an extra 10% ingots from every smelt.
- 100: The workers of Greystone like you so much they allow you free usage of the bloomeries, and allow you to store even more in the bunkers. (60,000 each)
Alloying Mechanics
- There are only four usable metal ores in this world of ours at the present date. These are Iron, Dull Copper, Gold, and Agapite. While these ores can be refined into their usual fully metallic states by any competent miner, shrewd craftsmen with alchemy skills can do interesting, perhaps unexpected things with them.
- Each ore vein in the world has a 79% chance of being iron, 11.2% chance of being dull copper, 5.6% chance of being gold, and 4.2% chance of being agapite.

- Copper
- Combining dull copper with an equivalent amount of sulfuric ash in a bloomery will produce a more pure copper, as the sulfur will burn away a greater percentage of impurities than the fires alone. Copper gear, while perhaps not as strong as iron, has an interesting relationship with poison. Armor crafted from this material will give adventurers increased resistance to poisonous effects, while weapons crafted from it seem to hold a poisonous property all their own.
- One dull copper ingot combined with one sulfuric ash in the bloomery produces a copper ingot.
- Copper requires mining and alchemy skills of 75 each to produce.
- Bronze
- Combining iron with copper in a bloomery will produce bronze. This material seems to carry the fires of the forge with it, imbuing items created from it with warmth. Armors crafted from bronze will protect adventurers from cold damage, and weapons crafted from it will burn their foes. The warmth of these items will comfort weary adventurers, helping them to carry more weight for long distances.
- One iron ingot combined with one copper ingot gives one bronze ingot.
- Bronze requires mining and alchemy skills of 80 each in order to produce.
- Warmth of Comfort – Each piece of bronze gear provides between 10 and 20 stone of extra carry weight.
- Verite
- Combining bronze with agapite in a bloomery produces verite. A truly higher tier material, verite provides well rounded defenses when crafted into armor, and carries along some of copper’s poison abilities when crafted into weapons. In addition to this, the material seems somewhat attuned to magical energies, and adventurers will find that armor made of this material will not block their meditation.

- Verite requires mining and alchemy skills of 95 each in order to produce.
- Meditive Balance – Verite armor allows meditation to restore mana.
